The Gevi
BrewOne is a unique and powerful pour over coffee machine, but many users feel its interface can be a bit of a puzzle at first. If you've been struggling to get started, you're not alone. As someone who has spent time mastering its features, I've created this guide to walk you through creating a custom brew recipe from scratch. With these steps, you'll go from wrestling with the machine to pulling clean, sweet cups with fantastic clarity.
Getting Started: Initial Setup
Your journey to the perfect cup begins the moment you power on your pour over coffee machine.
-
Turn on the main power switch.
-
The machine will prompt you with, “Preheating required?”. You can select either 'Yes' or 'No'. The machine preheats to a default of 176°F (80°C) regardless of your choice.
-
From the “Home” screen, tap the “Brew” button to enter the main brewing menu.
Creating Your First Custom Recipe
Once in the brew menu, you'll see options for “Cup set” and “Create a recipe” (Note: saved recipes will also appear here if you have any). Let’s dive into creating a new one.
Step 1: Set Your Core Brewing Parameters
After selecting “Create a recipe,” you’ll be presented with the primary settings that define your brew.
-
Recipe Name: It's a great practice to name your recipe after the coffee beans you're using, as different beans often require unique temperatures and methods.
-
Dose: This is the weight of your coffee grounds.
-
Ratio: Set your desired coffee-to-water ratio here.
-
Temp: The brewing temperature for your water.
-
Phases: This determines the number of distinct pouring stages in your brew cycle. For a typical three-stage pour, you would set this to 3.
Once these are set, hit “Next Step” to configure each phase individually.
Step 2: Fine-Tuning Each Brew Phase
This is where this pour over coffee machine truly shines, giving you precise control over the extraction. For each phase you defined, you can adjust the following:
-
Volume: The amount of water used in that specific pour.
-
RPM (Rotations Per Minute): This controls the rotation speed of the water spout, which contributes to how evenly the water is distributed over the coffee bed. These rotating spouts are excellent for achieving even extraction.
-
F-Rate (Flow Rate): The speed at which water is dispensed, measured in ml/s. This is a critical variable. A high flow rate, like 6ml/s, might lead to a watery, under-extracted cup. Dialing it back to around 5ml/s and adjusting your bloom time can significantly improve results.
-
Interval: The pause time between each pouring phase.
If you're unsure where to begin, looking up recipes from brewing champions online can provide a great starting point.
Step 3: Save Your Hard Work!
This is the most crucial step! After you’ve perfected all your settings, you must hit the “Save” button. Failing to do so will erase all your progress. It may take some experimentation to get your recipe just right, but the process of tweaking the settings is part of the fun.
By carefully adjusting these parameters, you can use the Gevi
BrewOne pour over coffee machine to achieve consistently delicious coffee tailored exactly to your taste.
