Hi, I’m Silas Vance, a product manager and part of the core R&D team behind the Velpro 400.
With over a decade of experience in coffee equipment development and as an SCA-certified professional, my work has always focused on one thing: refining the details that truly impact extraction. From grind consistency to retention control, I’m driven by the belief that great coffee is built on precision engineering.
Velpro 400 is the result of that mindset-a collaboration between engineers, designers, and coffee professionals who wanted to bring more control, consistency, and clarity into the home setup.
My goal has always been simple: bridge the gap between professional performance and everyday usability, so that making great coffee at home feels less like a compromise and more like an intention.

The Journey: From the Lab to the Counter

My journey started in the lab. For the past 10 years, I’ve been hands-on in the development of espresso machines and grinders, looking at coffee through the lens of an engineer. Our team spent thousands of hours analyzing how burr geometry affects particle distribution and how micro-adjustments in thermal stability can completely change the flavor profile of a Mandheling or a Kona bean.
At Gevi, my role is to make sure our technology translates into measurable improvements in the cup. I focus on turning engineering variables-like grind consistency, retention, and workflow efficiency-into practical features that users can rely on every day.

My Core Expertise

  • Particle Size Distribution & Grind Consistency: Focused on achieving tight particle distribution to improve extraction uniformity, clarity, and repeatability.
  • Burr Geometry & Grinding Dynamics: Specialized in flat burr design, cutting mechanics, and RPM stability to optimize grind uniformity and flavor separation.
  • Low Retention & Anti-Static System Design: Dedicated to minimizing retention and static through structural optimization and electrostatic control for cleaner dosing and workflow.
  • Brew Temperature Stability (PID Systems): Focused on precise thermal control to ensure consistent extraction conditions across repeated shots.
  • Pressure & Flow Dynamics: Working on pump performance, pressure stability, and pre-infusion control to improve extraction balance and consistency.
  • Workflow & User Interaction Engineering: Enhancing usability through intuitive controls, efficient workflow design, and precise adjustment systems without compromising performance.

Credentials & Philosophy

Holding an SCA Certification means I don't compromise on quality. I believe mastering the perfect pour starts with honest engineering. My goal is simple: eliminate the guesswork and provide you with equipment that performs consistently, without exception.

Let's Talk Coffee

Moving forward, I’ll be using the Gevi blog to share technical deep-dives, brewing guides, and a behind-the-scenes look at coffee tech. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just grinding your first beans, I’m here to help you master the 'why' behind the 'how.
