FAQ

  • Why does the grind setting “5” produce a pour-over grind? And how do I calibrate a stepless coffee grinder?

Follow our official step-by-step calibration guide to align the zero point and restore accurate grind control: https://gevi.com/blogs/video-tutorial/grinder-calibration-guide-for-the-velpro-400

  • Why does the grind adjustment knob make noise?

A slight clicking sound is normal, but if it feels tight or too loud, the positioning screws may be too tight—just loosen them slightly for smoother adjustment.

  • Why does the same grind setting produce different taste results?

Even micro-adjustments affect extraction time and flavor balance; variables like bean freshness, roast level, humidity, and grind size all influence the final cup, so adjust gradually and control one variable at a time.

  • Why is my grinder clogging?

Clogging is usually caused by fine particles or oil buildup; regular cleaning and using the bellows will keep the burrs and chute clear.

  • Why does my coffee grinder retain grounds?

New grinders often have higher retention due to static and unseasoned burr surfaces; seasoning the grinder with 50–100g of beans reduces static, while the bellows helps clear remaining grounds for more accurate dosing.

  • Why is my grinder spraying coffee grounds everywhere?

Static buildup or a blocked anti-static system can cause grounds to scatter; cleaning the chute and outlet ensures smooth, controlled dispensing.

  • Why does the adjustment knob feel different from metal?

The knob is made from high-durability, insulated engineering-grade polymer for better grip, reduced vibration, and electrical safety; if you notice looseness or responsiveness issues, please contact our support team for assistance.

  • Why is there coffee residue in my new VelPro 400 grinder?

This is completely normal. Every VelPro 400 grinder undergoes a thorough quality test before it leaves the factory, ensuring top-tier performance. As part of the testing process, some coffee grounds may remain in the machine. Rest assured, your VelPro 400 is brand new.

Absolutely amazing

Absolutely amazing. Went on a recommendation of another barista, bam...best thing since sliced bread. Buy cheap, get inconsistent grinds. Buy the best, get the best. Off the chart recommendation for this unit.

Off to a good start but it's only been 6 wks.

So far I'm pleased. It's not perfect. It needs a bellows. I bought one for a Niche for <$10 and it works well enough (see picture). This grinder isn't zero retention. I don't know how it compares to Timemore or Fellow but it seems on par with a DF54 but less messy. I had to search in these comments for the blog on how to set the zero to where the burrs are just touching. I was getting too many fines and decided to calibrate and align the burrs. After a few attempts I got both burrs aligned and the results are markedly better. So far I'm pleased. I just replaced the switches, gear box and board in my 12-yr old Baratza Encore--the parts for which are still cheap and available direct from the mfr. I hope Gevi allows me to keep this cool grinder running for a decade--then it'll be worth 5-stars. TBD.

Great Grinder

For the price point, this grinder represents excellent value and performs well beyond expectations once properly set up.

Out of the box, the coaxial burr alignment needed adjustment because the burrs were not perfectly parallel. After aligning and confirming even burr contact, grind consistency improved noticeably, particularly at finer espresso settings. The unit also shipped without a grinder brush, which is a minor omission but worth noting.

In espresso use, the grinder performs exceptionally well. Particle size distribution is consistent, fines are well controlled, and dialing in is straightforward with good repeatability between shots. Retention is low, and the grinder responds predictably to small grind adjustments.
Build quality is solid, tolerances are acceptable after alignment, and vibration is well managed during operation. Aesthetically, the grinder is very well executed and looks far more premium than its price would suggest.

Overall, if you are comfortable checking and correcting burr alignment, this grinder is an excellent espresso performer and punches well above its price class.

Endgame Grinder

So the looks of this grinder caught my attention. This and that super expensive weber grinder. The looks alone of this machine had me reconsidering a bolted flat burr machine. Otherwise i would have went with a conical burr as blind flat burr machines are still excessively expensive.

The build quality of this machine is top teir. Refined industrial level quality. Also very balanced motor and blades. It is impressively quiet for being a coffee grinder.

Rather sure this is a 3 phase permant magnet variable frequency alternating current motor. I wish marketing departments would embrace that title and stop lieing by calling it d.c.. This is literally a vast upgrade. Whatever is inside it , run smooth and steady as a Haas on a finish cut , I can't detect slowdown in load.

My only nitpick in the machine is the gravity scale does not have a magnetic pull to the grinder base. So the magnetic pull from the gravity scale to the magnetic pull of the dosing cup is almost troublesome. I can still do it 1 handed , but id almost prefer no magnets. How fancy it would really feel if both had magnets.

I was all prepared for that fancy individual vile preweighed coffee going to a dosing funnel to get water sprayed ... but i dont need any of that. The throughput is so quick and precise and the gravity scale so wonderful i just pour it quickly from the bag. If this is your only grinding machine ever , you would have no idea at all of static charge. Even though the dosing cup looks like it needs a funnel , there is no static. Grounds just fail straight down.

This grinder is a amazingly good part of my workflow and im not even sure how to make the rest as good as this grinder.

Another notable point is how quiet this machine is. A few seconds pause while on a call. other machines i push start and run to the other room for both our sakes.

It oozes quality and im happy China is making high quality items in real production , also saddened white countries are not.

It was very well packaged and is heavy.

easily 5 out of 5. well worth the money.

The little engine that could.

When I first received this grinder, I wasn't so sure about it. The way it looked, not my style, but I bought it because of the features. Stepless, 400w brushless vatiable speed motor, auger fed vertical flat burrs (is that how you say it?), near zero retention, and a scale on the catch cup! Can this get any better? It surpasses a lot of other grinders for the price point. From my understanding, there was a version before this. Low and behold, Gevi took notes and listened to feedback, then went on to update this beast. Would I buy it again? Yes. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. Should you buy it? Yes. Looks like three's a crowd.

Very happy with this purchase

Really enjoying this grinder that I purchased to use for espresso, paired with the Lelit Elizabeth. It's easy to use and I love that it has its own scale, the container the grounds go into is easily placed directly on my portafilter, and appreciate how the adjustable RPM means there's another variable to play with in dialing in the shots of coffee. No regrets whatsoever!

A huge upgrade to our home coffee making

A huge upgrade to our home coffee making. We primarily do espresso and pour overs, and the consistency from this grinder, at the price point, has been impressive. We have not had any issues with the operation, and aside from needing find the "zero point" the machine was ready to go out of the box I cannot recommend this grinder enough!

Exactly what I needed!

Watched a whole lot of grinder review videos and this one stood out. I decided to go for it. It’s exactly what I wanted: a grinder that does espresso and drip coffee.

Great upgrade

I have had my Grindmaster for just over a week, and I love it. I moved up from years of using cheaper conical burr grinder and for the first time I understand what an even grind is. I have just started my exploration of pour overs and the 64mm flat burrs make a difference in bringing out the high note flavors.

This is the BEST GRINDER!!!

This is my 4th grinder. All were high quality, the last one was a $1300 single dose grinder and I sent it back as it would not deliver anywhere close to the number of grams I would put into it. The grounds were very even but often 2-5 gm less than I put it. This one delivers exactly the amount I put in every time and it does a great job of grinding. I was skeptical as I didn't know the brand but it delivers everything it promised. NO CLEAN UP afterward. I don't see a single grain of coffee on the counter! I'm lovin' it!

Best value for money single dose coffee grinder

I bought mine on pre-release as a prototype during the crowd funding process, and I have to say some 3 years later or so, its still going string and has never missed a beat! Variable grind speed means that you can dial your coffee in depending upon the coffee you are using, age of the beans, relative humidity, etc., and the solid vertically mounted burss along with a powerful brushless motor, means that quality and consistency is delivered time and time again!

Couldnt be happier with my product, and it still looks and feels brand new, and the coffee it produces is on par with commercial equipment, many times the price. Highly recommended!

All great except setting the grind size.

The 0 on the grind setting is really not 0… you have to crank it way to the left to find out where the burrs are touching each other. Just wish machine is set to zero where 0 is. Otherwise fantastic grinder no complaints..still searching for my 0

Hi there,

Thank you for your fantastic feedback! We are thrilled to hear you’re enjoying your grinder’s performance.

Regarding the grinder calibration: you’re absolutely right. The vibrations and bumps during long-distance shipping can sometimes cause the dial to shift slightly from its original 'true zero' position.

To help you fix this, we have specifically created a Calibration Guide to get your scale back in perfect sync: Gevi Grinder Calibration Guide for VelPro 400: https://gevi.com/blogs/video-tutorial/grinder-calibration-guide-for-the-velpro-400

Following these steps should help you find that '0' you’re looking for. If you still have trouble after trying the guide, please contact us at service@gevi.com. We’re here to ensure your experience remains five-star!

Best regards,
The Gevi Team

Sleek machine

The Gevi grinder looks great on the counter, very sleek looking. I gave this to my son for a gift and he said he doesn't think he has really made espresso until he used this machine. I had a little problem with the delivery and Christina in customer service was very prompt and took care of all the details.

Great 64 mm grinder.

Disclaimer - I am a coffee beginner and cannot tell cherry notes from orange notes.

So far, I am very satisfied. Aesthetics wise, it looks great, though eye of the beholder here. It is feature risk in it's price range. Accessing the burrs is extremely easy and intuitive, so cleaning is easy and it makes for a solid future upgrade path. The motor specs are top tier. Variable speed is very nice to have (though I have no idea what I'm doing in that area). I really like the gentle tactile feedback on the grind dial. The coffee coming out is more than sufficient for my needs; and testing and reviews from professional coffee nerds say it is very good. It runs a lot quieter than what I was expecting; dare I say pleasant sounding.

Small complaints only. I wish there was a physical grind knocker. The one on the Timemore just looks so satisfying to use. It's not a big deal to pat the shoot, but it is less fun. And it seems like that could take the grind retention from good to great. My OCD would like to be able to re-zero the grind dial. Especially if I put in new burrs, the zero point would change. But at the grind dial is fixed, and there are numbers, the actual zero point would not correspond to the "0" on the dial.

Customer service was very helpful and responsive. My original unit came with a defective scale. Ruby quickly helped me with a replacement, which arrived surprisingly quickly. Overall a great RMA experience.

Functional Sculpture

I really love this grinder. I got it as an upgrade from the grinder on my Breville express and the difference is really night and day.

I saw it this in a Lance Hedrick video and was instantly sold when I saw how sick this thing looked.

This specific machine, I got the dark one, is the coolest most futuristic cyberpunk Tron esque grinder that exits on the market. Easily. And it does a phenomenal job at giving a nice beautiful consistent grind. Looks way way cooler than many of it's competitors that are close to double the price and honestly it's just great.

For reference, I found the grind setting on the dial close to the 1 mark to be perfect for most of my espresso beans.

beautiful machine

I normally don't write reviews , but the built quality of this machine is just beautiful looks great on the counter top. Mechanically it runs smoothly and adjustability in dialing espresso is so easy and stress free. the little features like the built in scale is a plus for me.
