Follow these steps to reset your Velpro 400:

Phase 1: Preparation

  1. Get Your Tools Ready

You will need a screwdriver and the cleaning brush included with your grinder.

  1. Clear the Grinder

Empty the bean hopper completely. Ensure there are no coffee beans left in the grind chamber.

  1. Clean the Burrs

Remove the burr assembly. The removed components should include the bean hopper, outer ring cover, inner ring cover, grind setting dial, bolt, rotating burr and carrier, and spring. Clean the grinding chamber and the flat burrs thoroughly using the brush. Ensure there is no residual powder or leftover beans.

Phase 2: Check the Mark Before Calibration

  1. Reinstall

Make sure the burr, inner ring cover and grind setting dial are correctly installed.
Crucial Step: The positioning dot on the inner ring cover must align with the positioning dot on the grinder body (see the red box in the image below).

  1. Troubleshooting Dial Mark Position

If the dots do not align when tightened:
  • Turn the grind setting dial about 10-20 clicks towards the "Coarse" direction (larger numbers).
  • Try tightening the inner ring cover clockwise again.
  • Check if the dots align. If not, repeat the process until they do.
  • Once aligned: Turn the grind setting dial about 10 clicks towards the "Coarse" direction (larger numbers).

Phase 3: The Calibration Process

  1. Run on Empty

Keep the Velpro 400 empty (no beans in the grind chamber). Turn on the grinder and set the rotational speed (RPM) to 15.

  1. Find the Zero Point

Slowly turn the grind setting dial towards the "Fine" direction (smaller numbers). Make small adjustments until you hear a slight sound of the burrs touching. STOP immediately and turn off the grinder.

  1. Remove the Grind Setting Dial

Carefully remove the grind setting dial. Do not rotate the dial while doing this. You will see that the indicator is not currently at "0"—this is what we are fixing.

  1. Remove the Grind Adjustment Knob

Unscrew the positioning screws and take off the grind adjustment knob (the part with the numbers).

  1. Align to Zero (First Pass)

Rotate the grind adjustment knob so the "0" aligns exactly with the calibration mark. Note:Do not rotate the burr adjustment gear during this step.

  1. Reinstall and Check

Place the knob back onto the grind setting dial. You should see it is now calibrated to the "0" position.
Note: To reinstall the knob correctly, make sure the “1” and “2” alignment marks are lined up before pressing the knob back into place.

Phase 4: The Final Buffer Adjustment

  1. Set the Starting Position

Slowly turn the grind setting dial towards the "Coarse" direction (larger numbers) by exactly 5 clicks.

  1. Realign to Zero (Second Pass)

Remove the knob again. Once more, re-align the "0" on the knob with the calibration mark.

  1. Final Assembly

Reinstall the grind setting dial. Do not rotate the dial during this installation.

  1. Calibration Complete

Reinstall the adjustment assembly onto the machine. Your VelPro 400 is now calibrated!
