Probably most of you will take ice production into consideration when choosing a pellet ice maker countertop for your home. When you search it online, you’ve already noticed that GEVI is one of the most popular ice machines. You can enjoy the first batch of fresh ice in 15 minutes. In addition, you’ll never run out of nugget ice if you own a GEVI sonic ice maker countertop, up to 26lbs a day, 2lbs more than GE opal.

Normally, a new ice machine works well when first plugged in and you will get a lot of ice in your drinks but sometimes it’s not the case. You might come across the situation that it does not make enough ice per day, which is far from your expectation. Why will this happen?

In order to tackle this issue, our professional engineers have analyzed the reason and offered an explanation in detail. It probably relates to the poor heat dissipation caused by improper placement such as being too close to the wall. But, what’s the relation between this and low ice production?

In fact, we would like to show you that the refrigeration cycle will give out a large amount of heat when the compressor pressurizes low-pressure refrigerant vapor into high-pressure vapor when the machine is making ice.

The condenser is composed of lots of tubes and fins whose function is to cool down the refrigerant from the compressor and let heat out. All of the heat will be blown away by a fan. In this process, the refrigerant will be transformed from vapor into liquid in the condenser and then move into the evaporator.

There is a fan for the ice maker to draw the heat out of the condenser and disperse it into the surrounding air. The machine needs enough space for hot air to circulate and gets good ventilation, which makes it operate normally. If it is set without enough clearance, there will be so much heat hovering around the unit, and has nowhere to go. Eventually, hot air will be taken back into the machine by the fan. As heat continually recirculates through the ice maker, it naturally creates a microclimate.

However, the compressor, a workhorse doesn’t stop doing its job when making ice. In this situation, the condenser has to absorb heat all the time and can’t dissipate the heat into the air because of the microclimate. So, the heat is accumulated in the confined space constantly, which makes the microclimate more serious. Therefore, there is no temperature difference between the condenser and surroundings and it’s difficult for heat exchange. With the constant increase of heat, the condenser becomes overheated and stops cooling effectively, so it needs more time to finish the transformation from vapor to liquid.

Only the refrigerant in a liquid form can be accepted by the barrel evaporator also called a cylinder evaporator, which works to make water freeze into ice. If the refrigerant moves slowly through the evaporator, it will naturally slow down ice production and can’t reach your expectation.

This detailed explanation has expressed an important point that it is very important to leave enough space for heat dissipation for the ice machine countertop to operate normally. Don’t worry about this and we’ve given suggestions for you. We have designed user tips, writing “Keep 6 inch or more clearance on all sides for proper ventilation.” This explanation is to help you better understand our unit to offer you the best user experience of our GEVI product.

It’s easy to solve this issue when you come across it. You can try to do what we’ve suggested and probably be surprised that your ice maker gives you 29lbs of ice per day, as you expected before. If it is still not working, please feel free to contact our customer service and we will deal with it as soon as possible.
