GEVI ice makers are made in a world-class production workshop with a strict quality control system and professional quality inspectors.

All of our ice makers have been tested by inspectors or automatic detection several times and it is certain that all machines are qualified products.

However, we sometimes have received complaints from our customers about an annoying noise in the first use after receiving the delivery. Some of them will be worried whether our makers are under poor quality control and therefore there are defective products entering the market.

So, why will the ice maker make an annoying noise? What closely relates to this issue is the compressor, the heart of the ice maker. The structure is as followed.

The structure of the compressor determines that it cannot be laid down or upside down. However, it is transferred violently such as pulled, dragged, or hauled roughly during the long-distance shipping and the delivery process resulting in laying down or even being upside down. Once this happens, the parts inside the compressor will be loose or moved. The compressor is a hermetic unit and if something goes wrong inside the compressor, it probably will make some annoying noises when running. In terms of this issue, we have analyzed two major situations that will happen inside the compressor.

Loose Parts of Compressor

Inside the compressor, there are rubbers to reduce the vibration keeping the compressor in balance, and therefore every part is kept in the right position and operates normally. If the compressor is hauled in a violent way during transportation, laid upside down in the truck jolting over the bumpy road causing excessive vibration during delivery, the rubbers will be out of shape because of uneven stress and can’t protect the compressor well. So, the parts inside the compressor such as a dislodged piston pin and a wobbly crankshaft will be more likely loose or even damaged resulting in the squealing noise.

Movement of Internal Tube

The internal discharge tube shaping like S, a kind of high-pressure tube, is filled with refrigerant gas so every bend of the tube is reasonably designed. However, in the process of transportation, the compressor is dragged, bumped, or knocked on the floor roughly which will cause the tube to vibrate excessively so the internal tube will move close to the upper housing gradually. Therefore, when the compressor is running for the first use, the high-pressure tube will constantly hit against the upper housing of the compressor resulting in an unusual noise.

A series of violent and rough actions might place the compressor upside down and then make an annoying noise. Actually, it’s a common and unavoidable issue of ice machines no matter which brand you choose but GEVI has tried to reduce the probability of violent actions during transportation and protect the product as far as possible. That is exactly why GEVI team has designed user tips on a conspicuous position of our package, writing “Keep this side up” and “Leave it upright for 2 hours before power it on”.

Although the inversion will not necessarily cause the annoying noise, it might happen with a certain probability but very low. If you received the delivery, remember our tips for keeping it still for 2 hours, which can greatly reduce the probability of the issue.

How to Deal with It

If unfortunately, the product you received has encountered this situation, don’t worry and please contact GEVI customer service immediately. We will deal with it as soon as possible. Within the warranty, all costs will be paid for by GEVI team if you come across this. What we do is to give the best user experience for you.
